Staying Lean and Achieving Your Health Goals

Featuring: Aunt Carla

I have learned a lot about health and wellness over the years from other bloggers, YouTubers, nutritionists, podcasts, and books. However, I have learned a great deal for my Aunt Carla. Whenever I see her, we deep dive into new health and fitness things, we have been doing, and she knows a lot! She is extremely fit, lives a healthy lifestyle, and is a total badass (oh and did I mention a mom of 2 sets of twin boys!). I thought it would be interesting to interview her and share some of the tips she has shared with me over the years.

Healthy Food Spots: along the California Coast

MalibuFarmCafe1 By Haley

When I am traveling I make it a priority to visit the best healthy food spots places in the area. For spring break, I took a trip down the coast. I decided to document all the must-visit healthy food locations from Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice.

Prior to this trip, I’d never visited these places. However, knew about many of the trendy juice bars and cafes which the LA culture promotes.

Malibu Farms

First stop was Malibu Farms, located on Malibu Pier. Malibu Farms is on a long pier separated into two sections, a restaurant, and a cafe. The restaurant is right when you walk onto the pier, and the cafe is at the end of the pier. I ate at the restaurant for lunch, and it is absolutely adorable inside and out. It has glass windows all around so you can see the ocean from every table. The food well, it’s all fresh, and everyone in your family will enjoy eating there. For lunch, I shared the cauliflower pizza as an appetizer and then had a brussel sprout salad. Both were AMAZING!

Along with the food, I ordered the mint lemonade which is a must! I wish I could eat here every day. The location is beautiful, and the food is farm fresh and to die for.

Social Media Detox: My Expierence

Social Media Detox1 By Haley

No social media for five days… I know in today’s society it sounds like the worst thing. After doing a social media detox, I realized how important it was to give myself a break from the online world.

I have to admit my detox was sort of forced. While I was going through rush, I had to delete my social media. At first, I had a mini heart attack, mainly because I use my Instagram as an extension to my blog. After I took a step back, I realized how I had never been off social media for that long, and I could benefit from it.

Holiday Gift Guide: Hanging With Haley Approved

Holiday Gift Guide By Haley

Happy Holidays everyone! I decided a Hanging With Haley inspired gift guide was in need. I am always getting asked about certain products and recommending things that I love so I thought why not share it with everyone!

Since Amazon basically runs the world now and amazon prime is how I survive college everything is linked to there! I have a variety of things which I love (and use) which I have listed in sections.  These items are my favorite and are perfect for just about anyone on your holiday list. If you are doing a secret Santa, I highly recommend the beauty guru section for your girlfriends! Maybe I’ll even get my dad a jade roller for Christmas and show him how to use it LOL.

Healthy Holiday Tips

Healthy Holiday Tips By Haley

The holidays are in the air!  The leaves are falling, the weather is colder, and you’re spend time with friends and family.  We all love the holidays and surviving with some healthy holiday tips might help along the way.

With the holidays, we always eat more, indulge in sweets and put off going to the gym. Holidays are a time to be spent celebrating and being thankful…however every year I tend to think “If only I hadn’t completely disregarded my healthy habits”.

Although I will be indulging on some apple pie and mashed potatoes throughout this season I will be watching ‘how much’ I am indulging. With that, I am going to really work hard to follow these healthy holiday tips:

All Things To Do With Journaling | Why you need to Journal

Writing In Journal 1 By Haley

Do you journal? Well, let me tell you exactly why you should be journaling and all the benefits I have sought from it.

Journaling has become a tool that I use whenever I feel stressed, overwhelmed, sad, angry… you know EMOTIONAL LOL. However, I also journal to write down memories, thoughts, and even letters to myself. It is a place where I can let anything out and then move on from it. Sort of like taking the trash out!

Writing In Journal 3 By Haley

Why exactly do I journal?

I wouldn’t call my journals a diary, for two reasons. The first being I think of a diary where you write about the boy you have a crush on and how the girl in your chemistry class pulled your hair. I journal anything that comes to mind, but I try to focus on the positive and the important things. The second reason I don’t think about it as a ‘diary’ is because I don’t just have one journal. There is one that I write blog-related topics in, one I fill with just self-love (aka where I boost my self-confidence and can always go back and read when I am feeling down), and one that I write in religiously about anything.

I have noticed a massive shift in my mentality and staying positive since I have started journaling. I would also credit that to the awesome podcasts, books and inspirational people I follow online too.

Avoiding the Freshmen 15

Ahhh, as legend has it, there is no avoiding the Freshmen 15 or is there! Before entering the college environment, I was so anxious. I was stressing out about what I was going to eat, the freshman 15 and how I was going to maintain a healthy lifestyle on dorm food. I will admit, it’s been a struggle being on a budget and working with dorm food. However, I want today’s post to focus on the positives and the simple things that can help you stay on track.

Avoiding unhealthy food

The first thing is not eating all the unhealthy food because it’s available. Many times this can be hard (all the time…in my case) when pizza and fries surround you. I am not saying don’t have those things, but it needs to be in moderation. I suggest having a fun treat or meal on a specific day or weekends only.

For me, that might mean eating a burrito, cookie(s), etc. on a Saturday night. If you find yourself eating pizza and fries every other night, well it’s going to add up and avoiding the freshman 15 is not going to happen. My most helpful tip when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle or doing anything in life is doing it CONSISTENTLY. That could mean, limiting fries and pizza to once a week and making healthy meal choices all other times. You need to find a balance and what works best for you.

Are You Practicing Self-Care?

Hanging with Haley

Happy International Self-Care Day everyone!

In the past couple of months, I have made a huge effort to practice more self-care and create a routine that I love! I have been listening to tons of podcasts and watching videos on other’s self-care rituals, and I can now say I am obsessed with the topic. I feel such a difference when I take time for myself to do something that makes me feel good. This can be anything from taking a bath, doing a face mask, or watching reality tv while drinking tea (aka letting my brain just completely relax and go to mush haha). I think it is so important to take time for yourself and do things that make you feel good and re-energized.

Self-care night

I love to have a ‘self-care night’ at least once a week. My self-care routine looks different every single time, but it usually entails that I take a long bath, apply a face mask, watch Netflix, and journal! (The time of the week where I can #extra and not feel bad about it) All of my favorite things in one night that leave me feeling amazing after and honestly unwind and de-stress. However, you don’t need a routine to practice self-care! It can be as simple as reading for a few minutes or working out! Some days it can be as simple as putting my phone down for an hour and reading or taking a walk. I find putting my phone away to be the best feeling. In a world full of social media and constant comparison a mini digital detox can be very necessary. I even consider my night time skincare routine apart of my self-care! In the end, it means taking time and focusing on yourself.
