Starbucks Fix And Staying Healthy

Drinking Starbucks

What isn’t there to love about Starbucks. Starbucks/coffee shops play a huge role in many peoples everyday life. Did you know that most of Starbucks drinks are filled with added sugar? Guess what, you can make healthier choices at Starbucks and avoid drinking your calories.

Drinks

  • Don’t get any sugary filled drinks! (Frappuccino’s, lemonades, most caffeinated drinks have added pumps of sweetener).
  • Get your drink unsweetened (if you need a little sweetener I would add honey).
  • Avoid using the creamers, milk, almond milk, coconut milk because they all have added sugar in them (yes, even the almond and coconut milk)
  • Look at Starbucks app and see what is actually in the drinks (the app shows how many pumps of cane sugar is in the drinks and other sweeteners).  I slowly weaned myself from the added sugar by asking for fewer pumps until I was able to finally able to order with no pumps added.
  • If you can, bring your creamer! I bring about 1/3 cup of my own unsweetened vanilla almond milk (If I know I am going to Starbucks).  Helpful hint: I use a reusable Starbucks cup, add my creamer from home and they add my coffee to the cup.

Masks your skin is begging you for

Masks - Drunk Elephant & Éminence

RePicture yourself watching the bachelorette on Monday night with your chocolate and tea (or maybe wine), and your missing something… a face mask! I love doing face masks, not only because they are fun, but they truly help my skin! Over the past recent months, I’ve discovered two masks that have completely transformed my skin. The first mask is the Drunk Elephant Sukari Babyfacial mask. I heard many beauty influencers rave about this product which is now a top selling product at Sephora! The second mask I have been loving is the Éminence Clear Skin Probiotic Masque. It has aided in clearing up any blemishes I have and cleaning out my pores.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial

Before I purchase any face product, I always read the reviews on Sephora (I do this with any skincare products I’m considering and most of my makeup products). As I read through the reviews, I saw an outstanding number of people saying how much this product had changed their skin for the better, and everyone was raving about it. I was very hesitant to buy it due to the price, but I ended up purchasing it with my mom, and we now share the product. I recommend splitting the cost and sharing it with a family member (sister, mom, dad whoever it may be).

Collagen Powder: Worth The Hype?

Collagen powder

The benefits

About a year ago and a half ago I began to use collagen powder. I started off by just putting it in my tea and drinking it a couple of times a week. After I started using it, I began to notice mayor benefits! Collagen is terrific for your skin, hair, nails, joints, and bones. It keeps the elasticity in your skin, which you lose when you age (my mom also uses it and has seen significant differences in her skin regarding overall tightness). After about one month of using collagen powder, I noticed my nails were getting stronger.   Then within about three months, I noticed my hair was growing super fast (I’ve always had long nails, but they would break easily, and my hair would never grow). Along with beauty benefits, collagen is incredible for your muscles, joints, and bones, and is an excellent source of protein.

Favorite Green Smoothie

Green Smoothie - healthy

How I found my way to a great green smoothie recipe.  A couple months ago I stumbled upon a podcast that had on the celebrity nutritionist Kelly Leveque.  Shortly after that, I picked up her book and fell in love with the science behind the method of her fab four smoothies. In the fab four smoothies, you have your fiber, fat, greens, and protein. She talks about how having all these components not only help you curve your hunger hormones so you will stay fuller longer. The past couples months I have been following that guide when making my smoothies.

I love starting my morning with a smoothie, and I love having them after I work out! I feel like I can get in so many nutrients that my body needs in such a simple way. Lately, I’ve also been trying to cut back on the amount of fruit that I have in my smoothies to decrease the amount of carb and sugar I have in the morning. Cutting back prevents me from spiking my blood sugar levels. I usually have a cup of fruit in my smoothies, but now I limit it down to ½ cup of fruit or less.

My Current Workout Routine

Home workout routine

Over the course of the past two years, I have had many different workout routine(s). When I first dove into working out, I was so confused with how I should workout. I found myself using machines and performing simple toning moves. My back always hurt because I wasn’t working out properly and thought that by doing tons of sit-ups I would have abs. I learned that my body did not thrive off that workout style.

My workout routine now

I love to mix it up, and my primary goal is to be active. I realized that I see more results when I incorporate more cardiovascular workouts, HIIT, and use my body weight. However, I am not anti-weights, in fact, I use them in a lot of my workouts. I love to mix up my workouts and shock my body. Some days I do super intense high-intensity workouts, other days I focus on toning and stretching. I usually schedule what I want to work out at the beginning of the week, and it might change based off how sore I am from a previous workout.

How To Protect Your Skin For Summer

How to protect your skin for summer

I burn easily… very easily. So, how to protect your skin for summer is something we must do.  Sunscreen has always been something I apply every day, or when my mom forced me too when I was little. As I have grown up, I realize how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. I also have fair skin with freckles and if I am in the sun to long, not only do I burn, but I get a crazy amount of freckles. Now, I love my freckles, but I prefer a faded freckle look on me (in the summer they also darken). I know it sounds funny but its the truth!
