Happy national Ice Cream Day! Ice cream is my favorite dessert, and over the years, I have found “healthier” ice creams to satisfy my sweet tooth. So how do you find healthy ice cream, well I’m here to help you out!
When I am browsing the ice cream aisle looking I always go for dairy-free ice cream, usually made with almond or coconut milk. Next, I look at the ingredients being sure to go for the ones with the least amount of ingredients because I don’t need all those extra gums and flours! *tip if there is something on the ingredient list that you cannot pronounce then it usually isn’t good for you!* Lastly, I look at how much sugar and carbs per serving is in the ice cream. I try to keep it under 6g of sugar (which is still a lot but better than most ice creams).
So what are my favorite healthy ice creams?
Halo Top- Dairy free
Halo top is my OG favorite healthy ice cream. They have a lot of flavors and they have protein in them. (Side note: I cannot have whey or pea protein because whey upsets my stomach and overall bulks you and pea protein makes me break out like CRAZY. Pea protein is found in a lot of dairy-free ice cream so it limits my personal choices).
So Delicious
I absolutely love this brand of ice cream and they have tons of flavor options too. I always get the mint chip (because it doesn’t have pea protein in that particular one). The ingredients are minimal and one of the best tasting ice creams I’ve tried!
New Barn
I recently found this brand and I LOVE IT! The ingredients are so clean and there are no added gums! Check out these ingredients: Organic Almond milk (Water, Organic Almonds), Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Coconut Cream, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Organic Cocoa Powder, Chocolate Extract, Salt. Usually, with this few ingredients, I have found the ice cream doesn’t have a great consistency but I’m here to tell you, it is so creamy and delicious! If you are looking for a yummy plain chocolate ice cream, I highly recommend this brand!
Pressed Juicery Freeze
My absolute favorite place to get a healthy ice cream alternative is the Pressed Juicery. They have the best-pressed freeze! I love that it has very few ingredients (Vanille freeze= Dates, Almonds, Vanilla Extract, Sea Salt, and Water). No gums, no added sugars, and it tastes amazing! I wish I could have the machine in my house, LOL. On their website and in the stores, they show you the difference between a freeze and other ice creams! You should check it out.
Obviously, I treat myself and have normal ice cream from time to time because it’s called living life! However, I never keep normal ice cream in the freezer (simply because I will eat it if it’s in their, lol). It’s all about balance and moderation.
