My De-bloating Tips!

swimsuit

Ughh bloating is one of the most annoying things, and I feel like I’m always dealing with it.  I wanted to share these tips that I follow to help me de-bloating.

Things I have learned about bloating is it can be caused by many things such as periods, excess amounts of sugar/salt, foods that are hard for your body to digest, and dehydration (yep, dehydration too – who knew).  I have found that when I am bloated, these tips and tricks work for me.

When bloated here are some de-bloating tips:

Drink water

I swear water is the cure for everything! Water is going to hydrate your body, help flush out toxins, and aid in digestion. When I’m bloated, I make sure to drink extra water and will add lemon to help flush out those toxins and aid in the digestion. When your body is dehydrated, it isn’t able to break down the foods that you have eaten, therefore you bloat. Water= your best friend!

Cut back on your sodium intake

Sodium (salt) causes your body to hold on to water and essentially makes you look puffy. After I have sushi, I usually bloat and feel squishy due to the excess salt on the sashimi, and sauces. When I am bloated, I try to stay clear of salt or salty foods in general. Things such as crackers, roasted nuts, and processed food. An easy way to make sure you are steering clear of sodium is to avoid packaged foods for the day and eat real whole foods. Don’t add salt to your meals for the day and continue to drink your water!

Take a probiotic

Probiotics are the good bacteria that your gut needs to digest food and break it down. When I have eaten something that my body is having a hard time breaking down, I reach for a kombucha (fermented bubbly probiotic), or I will take a probiotic pill. Make sure when you buy probiotic capsules that they are from the refrigerated section when you purchase them and they stay in the fridge at all times! I suggest getting a kombucha that has a minimal added sugar (Anything with 5g or less is what I look for).

Sweat it out

Getting a good sweaty workout in always helps with my bloating. You are sweating out the sodium and toxins within your body. If you are in pain from your bloating, then I recommend a nice hot bath or a steam room. Whenever I feel a little bloated from a meal or excess sodium an intense workout always leaves me feeling leaner and less bloated! Also, I am a HUGE bath girl and will ALWAYS take a bath when I am bloated as it always makes me feel better! (I find any excuse to take a bath)

Peppermint

I have recently become a huge fan of peppermint tea, and I love it! I have drank it before when I’m feeling bloated, and it helps! Peppermint tea helps with digestion, gas, and relieve cramps. Peppermint is fantastic for fighting bloat, so grab your lemon water and peppermint tea, and you are golden sista!

No coffee

If I wake up bloated a sadly will skip my morning cup of coffee and opt for hot lemon water or tea. Coffee is acidic and naturally dehydrates your body… which is the exact opposite of what you need when you are bloated! Instead, reach for a cup of peppermint tea!

I hope these debloat tips help you next time you feel #bloatedaf! Next time you feel bloated be sure to drink your water, peppermint tea, get a good sweaty workout done and take a hot bath. You will feel so much better after I promise!

Until next time, thanks for Hanging with Haley!
