What is Kombucha and Why I Drink It?

what is kombucha

What is Kombucha and why I love to drink it!  After hearing about this fantastic drink and posting about it, people started asking me what the heck is ‘Kombucha’? I’m sure by now you have heard of this trendy drink, but I’m here to break it down for you.

So what is Kombucha:

Kombucha is a fermented probiotic. I know what you’re thinking, “what in the world does that mean”… and “what is a probiotic?”.  Your body is made up of different bacteria, good and bad bacteria. Probiotics are the good bacteria that your gut needs to function and digest food. Essentially a healthy gut is everything. Your gut needs probiotics (good bacteria) to stay healthy.  If you don’t have good bacteria it can lead to bloating, trouble digesting food, brain fog, and fatigue. Also, you might be a little blocked up… AHH, I KNOW TMI!

So what is kombucha exactly? Well, those amazing things called probiotics I just talked about are fermented and combined with a yummy tea to make a bubbly drink call Kombucha. When I first tried Kombucha I didn’t love it, but I continued to drink it for the health benefits.  After a while, I began to enjoy the taste and found flavors/brands that were my favorite. Kombucha has sort of a vinegar taste, but don’t let that scare you off! There are tons of flavors out there that mask the vinegar taste. Because I rarely drink soda, I love drinking kombucha because it has that sweet taste like soda and the bubbly component which I really love. My favorite brand is Health-Ade Kombucha and it’s pretty much the only brand I buy.  I’m used to the taste, so I drink the original flavor, but I also love the pomegranate and pink lady (which I always suggest to my friends)

Honestly, kombucha has replaced soda for me and helps to curve your appetite.  At time, I will often reach for a kombucha to keep me from unnecessary sugary drinks and snacking!

So the next time someone asks you “what is Kombucha” you can tell them all about it.
