Healthy Food Spots: along the California Coast

MalibuFarmCafe1 By Haley

When I am traveling I make it a priority to visit the best healthy food spots places in the area. For spring break, I took a trip down the coast. I decided to document all the must-visit healthy food locations from Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice.

Prior to this trip, I’d never visited these places. However, knew about many of the trendy juice bars and cafes which the LA culture promotes.

Malibu Farms

First stop was Malibu Farms, located on Malibu Pier. Malibu Farms is on a long pier separated into two sections, a restaurant, and a cafe. The restaurant is right when you walk onto the pier, and the cafe is at the end of the pier. I ate at the restaurant for lunch, and it is absolutely adorable inside and out. It has glass windows all around so you can see the ocean from every table. The food well, it’s all fresh, and everyone in your family will enjoy eating there. For lunch, I shared the cauliflower pizza as an appetizer and then had a brussel sprout salad. Both were AMAZING!

Along with the food, I ordered the mint lemonade which is a must! I wish I could eat here every day. The location is beautiful, and the food is farm fresh and to die for.

Moon Juice Cafe

Next stop was Moon Juice Cafe. There is a high chance you have seen their wellness dust. It is in retail stores such as free people which is how I first discovered the brand. Moon juice has a line of adaptogens (super-mushrooms and super-herbs), which I know sounds a little odd. In a nutshell, they have a variety of these “adaptogens” that benefit your body emotionally and physically. An example is their beauty dust that helps fight stress and makes your skin glow! In this small cute cafe, they have healthy snacks such as activated vinegar almonds. Did you know that activated nuts means the nuts have been soaked in water and then dried. This enhances the nutrient value and is easier for your body to digest. Anyway, longside the juices, at the Moon Juice Cafe, they also make elixir drinks. Like cold brew with the beauty powder I mentioned!

Unfortunately, I don’t live anywhere close to their locations. However, I will be ordering from their website from here on out because that wellness dust is a must! If you visit the cafe, I suggest trying one of their elixirs, or the beauty water, and of course a snack! There were so many goodies that I wish I could have tried them all!

The Butchers Daughter

The next healthy food spot after a tad bit of shopping, we made our way to one of my favorite restaurants The Butchers Daughter! I first ate at The Butchers Daughter a few years ago. It was their New York location for brunch, and it was unforgettable. This time around however I was in LA and went for dinner, which was equally as amazing. The food is all vegetarian, mostly vegan and gluten-free. The food isn’t “too healthy” where you should only go there if you like to eat healthily. My dad and brother both loved this restaurant when we visited the New York location if that says anything. The vibe is very relaxed, and the restaurant itself is beautiful! If you are in the LA area (or even New York), I highly recommend going there to refuel on amazing and healthy food.

Kreation Juice

The last stop was Kreation Juice which was actually across the street from The Butchers Daughter (I know so convenient.) Unfortunately, it was too late in the day, and I was extremely full. I didn’t get a chance to try any of their food or smoothies. I did, however, grab one of their juices to go and had it for breakfast the next day. The juice I got was the ‘healer’ and had cucumber, parsley, spinach, romaine, kale, celery, lemon, ginger, and more green wellness factors. The juice was not sweetened which I LOVE! I hate when juices have added sugars or tons of fruit because it ruins the benefits of all the other fantastic factors. Instead of absorbing the nutrients your body is trying to break down the sugars (sorry didn’t mean to geek out there.) They have every juice you can imagine and all benefit you in various ways along with their wellness shots that looks like an actual shot you would get at the doctor (however you shoot it in your mouth obviously).

Pressed Juicery

Thought I would throw in a little bonus place, Pressed Juicery. It is one of my all-time favorite places. When I was down the coast I yelped and there are dozens in the area! I love to get there celery juice and the chocolate pressed freeze (aka the best “healthy ice cream” ever)

So, I hope y’all enjoyed this post on healthy food spots along the California coast. Let me know if you end up going to any of the places mentioned! I can’t wait to share upcoming blog posts and get back into a consistent routine this summer. BTW, you might also enjoy my post on eat healthy while traveling.

Until next time, thanks for Hanging With Haley!
