You gotta love a good tuna recipe, and this one is easy and quick to make. Tuna salad has become my absolute favorite thing to have for lunch. It is healthy, so easy to make (even in college), and taste amazing! Looking back at the tuna salad you grew up on, it probably wasn’t the healthiest tuna recipe and lacked flavor. Well, I am going to rock your world with this tuna salad recipe that tastes amazing and perfect for avoiding the Freshman 15.
Start with good quality tuna
The first ingredient in the tuna salad is canned tuna. Now I purchase tuna with no salt or oils added because I want it as healthy as I can get it. Also always make sure you are getting a good source of fish. I only buy WILD tuna, and I’ll tell you why. WILD caught tuna means it is not raised and fed on a farm. Essentially it was caught in the wild, not raised and fed unhealthy food (which then you consume).
What to do
I open the can halfway and dump whatever liquid that comes in the can out down the drain (never in the trash can or its gonna smell… fishy! lol) After I put the tuna into the bowl and smush it into super small pieces.
After the tuna is smashed up in a bowl, I add in the main ingredient, mayo. However, I don’t add regular mayo that contains elements that aren’t good for you. I add Chipotle Lime Mayo by Primal Kitchen which is made with real, and healthy ingredients and it tastes SO DANG GOOD. I put this mayo on so many other things such as turkey burgers, wraps, dipping sauce and it adds that extra kick! Then I add 2 tablespoons of the mayo and mix it into the tuna.
After I add in the mayo, I add in two very specific ingredients. However, you can put in what you like. I like to add whole foods pico de gallo and gauc from their fresh section. They are both made fresh and taste unreal. They are my favorite too add to any lunch or dinner dish, or I eat it with Siete chips. I add about 3 tablespoons of the pico de gallo and one tablespoon of guac. This gives the tuna salad that extra flavoring and substance that it needs. You don’t need the exact pico de gallo and guac from whole foods, but try to get ones that have minimal ingredients. Many ready-made dips have preservatives and extra salt, or sugar added. Plus the whole foods guac is my favorite…ever!
Once your tuna recipe is complete
Now you get to decide what to put it on. I like to spread a little more guac on jilz crackers and then put the tuna on top. Sometimes I will make a salad with lemon as my dressing and top it with my tuna. There are times when I am too hungry and will simply eat the entire bowl with a couple of Siete chips LOL. Usually, I will eat about 1/2 the bowl and save the rest for the next day. I find most times; I’ll end up eating most of it and only save 2 bites worth.
I wish I would have found out I had a love for tuna and created this recipe while I was still in high school as this would have been a fantastic lunch to bring. Plus it is so easy to make, and only takes about 3-4 minutes total! You can make this for a party or make double to share with your family.

-2 tablespoon of chipotle lime mayo

Now that I am in college, I had to modify how I make my tuna recipe depending on what I have in my mini-fridge at the time. However, I have found that it is still super easy to make, even while living in a dorm! Until next time, thanks for Hanging with Haley!
